All the advice discussed here applies equally to adjusters andclaim professionals. The knock on claims is that it is a black holethat absorbs money, a cost center that sends dollars out but nevergenerates any. Underwriting and Finance are seen as the sexy areas,the ones that bring in money.

Although the characterization is unfair, it is, nevertheless,prevalent. As a result, whether claim professionals work ininsurance companies or adjusting organizations, they must marketthemselves and their accomplishments to higher-ups and otherdepartments. Those companies that invested in claim staffing arereaping marketing rewards for it now by running televisioncommercials showing how they are helping Hurricane Katrina victims.Maybe having a good claim department can generate business afterall.
