LexisNexis has launched a new service, CopyGuard, to help detect plagiarism and copyright infringement and protect intellectual property.

Once a document is submitted, CopyGuard searches more than 6.1 billion documents and produces a report that underlines excerpts of any relevant text matches. A similarity index provides the exact percentage of text originating from elsewhere.

“We have a vested interest in this growing problem because of our long-standing relationships with media companies that go back 25 years or more,” said Elizabeth Rector, senior vice president of corporate and federal markets for LexisNexis.
