Claims News Service, Oct. 12, 11:20 a.m. EDT -- Risk ManagementSolutions (RMS) today announced the launch of a Terrorism andSecurity Risk Manager online service, a new information source forinsurers writing global terrorism risk. The service is provided incollaboration with Jane's Information Group, the leadingindependent provider of defense and security information, and islinked to the RMS Global Terrorism Risk Model to provide up-to-dateinformation on terrorism activity for insurers to use in theiranalysis of terrorism risk around the world.

The data now available in the information service provides theclearest picture ever established of the growing activity rates ofglobal terrorism. Terrorism activity increased for the thirdconsecutive year in 2005, following a decrease in 2002 after theinitial military phase of the global war on terror and the removalof the Taliban government in Afghanistan. In the past twelvemonths, the number of "macro" terrorism attacks (car bombs orworse) worldwide has more than doubled from the previous year. Thisexcludes Iraq, where the insurgency has increased to a rateaveraging more than two damaging attacks a day during 2005.Terrorism activity continues to spread to more countries, withmacro attacks occurring in more than 30 territories last year,compared to 20 the year before. In the past eight years, 76countries have experienced some form of a macro terrorismattack.

The collaboration between RMS and Jane's involved a completecategorization of a catalog of 23,000 terrorism events over thepast eight years in order to provide insurance companies with asophisticated online search engine to analyze data on targeting,attack modes, and activity trends in 228 territories worldwide. Inaddition, Jane's has provided a unique analysis and scoring systemof the counter-terrorism environment in each country, and providesnews, analysis and commentary, profiles of terrorist and insurgentgroups, and city risk tiering within each country.
