DirecTV, a satellite television service, has launched a 24-hourchannel dedicated to Hurricane Katrina information. The serviceseeks to provide information concerning Hurricane Katrina reliefand recovery efforts to evacuees in shelters across the Gulf Coast,as well as to subscribers nationwide.

The channel allows viewers to send text messages to family andfriends separated by the hurricane and its aftermath. Messages arescrolled across the bottom of the television screen on channel 100.To place messages, viewers can send e-mail messages [email protected] or text messages to 48433.
