The Workers Compensation Research Institute recently released a new version of its reference book outlining benchmarks of medical cost, price, and utilization. The Anatomy of Workers' Compensation Medical Costs and Utilization: Trends and Interstate Comparisons, 4th Edition, addresses three key questions: Where do workers' compensation medical dollars go?
How do medical prices, payments, and utilization per claim differ across states for similar injuries and workers? How have medical prices, payments, and utilization per claim changed over time within each state, and what are the reasons for those changes?
The report, by Stacey M. Eccleston, Xiaoping Zhao, Te-Chun Liu, and Michael Watson, is available from WCRI, 955 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA 02139, 617-661-9274, www.wcrinet.org.
