James S. Hyatt was named president of the Citizens and Hanover Insurance Companies personal lines division.

He replaces Cynthia Young, who has decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities, said Michael F. Buckley, a company spokesperson. "She will remain on board to ensure a smooth transition of leadership," he added.

The company said Mr. Hyatt will be responsible for all aspects of the company's personal lines operations. He was president of New England Region for the company and is a member of the carrier's operating committee.

Mr. Hyatt joined Citizens and Hanover in 2004. Before then, he was with The Hartford, where he served as a regional vice president of the company's property and casualty operations in Northern New England.

Taking Mr. Hyatt's place is Michael R. Christiansen, who will become president of New England Region effective July 11.

Mr. Christiansen was a senior executive with Liberty Mutual's independent agent and broker distribution channel and president and chief executive officer of Peerless Insurance Company.

The Citizens and Hanover Insurance Companies are members of Allmerica Financial Corporation, based in Worcester, Mass.
