Bush To Address IIABA Agent Conference
NU Online News Service, April 15, 4:22 p.m. EDT?President George W. Bush will address insurance agents and brokers on Thursday at the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America's National Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.[@@]
The IIABA said the President is slated to speak on the Social Security system and what he sees as an urgent need to modernize it for coming generations.
"This President understands the issues confronting Main Street America," said Robert A. Rusbuldt, IIABA's chief executive officer. "He knows that small business owners drive the economy through job creation and business expansion."
Mr. Rusbuldt praised the president as a "strong voice for many of the issues that our members support, not the least of which have been his impressive achievements on tax cuts and his successful push for class-action reform. Our members also support much-needed reforms to Social Security and the tax code, and we eagerly look forward to hearing from the President."
President Bush is the fifth president to address IIABA, joining Presidents Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
The conference, which runs April 20 to the 22, will include an in-depth issues briefing session; the annual IIABA congressional reception on Capitol Hill; appearances by numerous high-profile speakers; and hundreds of meetings on Capitol Hill between agents and brokers and their elected representatives in the Congress.
Other speakers at the conference include Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and House Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va.
