Louis Williams, Past-AAMGA President, Dies

NU Online News Service, Nov. 24, 3:02 p.m. EST?Funeral services were held today for Louis A. Williams, president of the American Association of Managing General Agents from 1989 to 1990, who died Monday, in Marshall, Texas of cancer. He was 81.[@@]

Mr. Williams was president of Louis A. Williams & Associates, a managing general agency he founded in Marshall, in 1959. He was also president of Commercial Finance Company, Houston Premium Finance, Marshall Systems Technology and Marshall Contract Adjusters.

Under his leadership, the business grew from three employees to a multiple lines underwriting and management company, which holds producer agreements with more than 1,000 insurance agents throughout Texas.

In 1995, the Marshall, Texas, Chamber of Commerce honored him as Outstanding Citizen of the Year and bestowed on him the Spirit of Marshall Award. The chamber and Marshall Economic Development Corporation honored his company in 2004 with the Big Business of the Year Award.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, daughter Sherry Burke and son Jerry, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial for Mr. Williams was at the Algoma Cemetery North in Marshall.
