System Offers Agencies Temporary Disaster Help
NU Online News Service, Sept. 10, 10:35 p.m. EDT?Afni Insurance Services announced yesterday that it is offering Service911, a new emergency service to help insurance agencies respond to customers when agency office operations are cut off by hurricanes or other emergencies.[@@]
When an agency's phone service is knocked out or Internet service isn't available, Afni's call center can step in to provide response, said Simsbury, Conn.-based Afni.
"Service911 works like insurance for insurance agents," the company said. Agents subscribe to the service, which is maintained and ready for use when needed. Afni maintains a toll free number and does weekly extracts of agency policyholder data, which are stored on a remote server, awaiting activation.
When disaster strikes, an agency activates the service, forwarding incoming calls to Afni, where the company's call center staff begins taking calls placed to the agency, Afni explained. Call center staff can access the policyholder data to respond to inquiries, with direct claims calls going to carriers and priority calls forwarded to agency staff as designated by the agency.
Afni said Service 911 includes:
? A toll free number to route incoming policyholder calls
? Agency-specific call scripting and escalation procedures to direct claims and emergency calls
? Weekly policyholder data extraction and storage of that data on remote servers
? An e-mail account to store e-mails for remote access
? Agency staff access to all policyholder data from any Internet connection
? A pre-disaster "prep call" when there is advance warning of a disaster
? Account manager review of transaction volume
? Contingency templates, including a radio ad script and a newspaper ad
Pricing includes a setup fee beginning at $500 and escalating depending on agency size, said an Afni spokeswoman. The minimum monthly fee for the service is $50, and there is a one-time $295 activation fee the first time the service is used. During use, there is a daily fee equal to the monthly fee for time used only.
