Atlantic Mutual Names New President

NU Online News Service, June 14, 3:22 p.m.EDT?Daniel H. Olmsted has been named president of AtlanticMutual and a member of its board of directors, the companyannounced.[@@]

Mr. Olmsted joined the company in 1984 and was recently namedsenior vice president of the Personal Insurance Division before hisappointment as president.

Mr. Olmsted replaces Kermit Smith, who left the company in Aprilof his own accord following the sale of two divisions, said companyspokesman Peter Scott.

The company also said its chief financial officer, Richard J.Hertling, was promoted to executive vice president. He was namedchief financial officer last September. Mr. Hertling's promotionfrom senior vice president reflects the senior management role henow plays in the company, Atlantic Mutual said.

Klaus Dorfi, chairman and chief executive officer of the NewYork-based insurer, said the promotions reflect their contributionsto the company as it re-structures itself as a writer of affluentpersonal lines business.

The company sold the renewal rights to its two lines of businesslast year. It sold off the renewal rights to its commercialoverland Marine and Ocean Going Cargo business to Travelers inOctober, and its Specialty Lines business to OneBeacon Insurance inDecember (see NU Online, Dec. 8).

The company also said it appointed John Shea vice president ofCommercial Claims to handle the commercial lines runoff. BillBernecker, vice president of claims, will concentrate his effortson personal lines.

The company said it promoted Martha Van Hise to vice presidentof Human Resources.
