Atlantic Mutual Names New President
NU Online News Service, June 14, 3:22 p.m. EDT?Daniel H. Olmsted has been named president of Atlantic Mutual and a member of its board of directors, the company announced.[@@]
Mr. Olmsted joined the company in 1984 and was recently named senior vice president of the Personal Insurance Division before his appointment as president.
Mr. Olmsted replaces Kermit Smith, who left the company in April of his own accord following the sale of two divisions, said company spokesman Peter Scott.
The company also said its chief financial officer, Richard J. Hertling, was promoted to executive vice president. He was named chief financial officer last September. Mr. Hertling's promotion from senior vice president reflects the senior management role he now plays in the company, Atlantic Mutual said.
Klaus Dorfi, chairman and chief executive officer of the New York-based insurer, said the promotions reflect their contributions to the company as it re-structures itself as a writer of affluent personal lines business.
The company sold the renewal rights to its two lines of business last year. It sold off the renewal rights to its commercial overland Marine and Ocean Going Cargo business to Travelers in October, and its Specialty Lines business to OneBeacon Insurance in December (see NU Online, Dec. 8).
The company also said it appointed John Shea vice president of Commercial Claims to handle the commercial lines runoff. Bill Bernecker, vice president of claims, will concentrate his efforts on personal lines.
The company said it promoted Martha Van Hise to vice president of Human Resources.
