Stephen Smith Named Rigg Agency President

NU Online News Service, May 6, 3:12 p.m.EDT?Stephen B. Smith has joined Wm. Rigg Co. as presidentfor the Texas multiple-line independent insurance agency, the RiggGroup Chairman Cecil Y. Ray Jr. announced.

Mr. Smith will be based in the Dallas office of Wm. Rigg, whichalso has offices in Fort Worth and Houston. The position he assumeshad been held for some years by Mr. Ray. The change is part of anongoing succession plan, a company spokesperson said.

Wm. Rigg offers commercial and personal property and casualtyinsurance and employee benefits.

Mr. Smith previously was senior vice president and partner ofNoel Greaves, Inc for eight years. There, he directed theManagement Liability Practice Group, which provided directors andofficers and professional liability consulting services. Followingthe acquisition of Noel Greaves by Summit Global Partners, Inc. in1997, Mr. Smith served as president and CEO of Summit GlobalPartners of Texas, Inc. for four years.

At SGP, Mr. Smith was responsible for all aspects of thecommercial operation. He also initiated and completed theconsolidation of five insurance agencies to create SGP, inHouston.

Wm. Rigg has 103 employees. The company is a subsidiary of TheRigg Group, a Texas holding company with interests in insurance,underwriting, brokerage, and premium finance. Other subsidiariesinclude Rigg Benefits and Financial Services, RISC Inc., AmericanFinancial Services Inc. (AFS), and IBEX Financial Services Inc.Group headquarters are in Fort Worth.
