Stephen Smith Named Rigg Agency President

NU Online News Service, May 6, 3:12 p.m. EDT?Stephen B. Smith has joined Wm. Rigg Co. as president for the Texas multiple-line independent insurance agency, the Rigg Group Chairman Cecil Y. Ray Jr. announced.

Mr. Smith will be based in the Dallas office of Wm. Rigg, which also has offices in Fort Worth and Houston. The position he assumes had been held for some years by Mr. Ray. The change is part of an ongoing succession plan, a company spokesperson said.

Wm. Rigg offers commercial and personal property and casualty insurance and employee benefits.

Mr. Smith previously was senior vice president and partner of Noel Greaves, Inc for eight years. There, he directed the Management Liability Practice Group, which provided directors and officers and professional liability consulting services. Following the acquisition of Noel Greaves by Summit Global Partners, Inc. in 1997, Mr. Smith served as president and CEO of Summit Global Partners of Texas, Inc. for four years.

At SGP, Mr. Smith was responsible for all aspects of the commercial operation. He also initiated and completed the consolidation of five insurance agencies to create SGP, in Houston.

Wm. Rigg has 103 employees. The company is a subsidiary of The Rigg Group, a Texas holding company with interests in insurance, underwriting, brokerage, and premium finance. Other subsidiaries include Rigg Benefits and Financial Services, RISC Inc., American Financial Services Inc. (AFS), and IBEX Financial Services Inc. Group headquarters are in Fort Worth.
