VCIA To Offer Chicago Seminar

NU Online News Service, March 6, 10:00 a.m. EST?The Vermont Captive Insurance Association announced a captive seminar and breakfast in Chicago, April 9.

The decision to form a captive insurance company is an individualized process that reflects the unique needs and interests of each association, corporation or group, said the Burlington, Vt.-based VCIA. Seminar representatives from two different types of captives will share their experiences.

The discussion, titled "Understanding the Strategic Advantages of Captives, Regardless of Market Conditions," will present case studies describing a variety of captive formations.

Presenters will also describe the captive climate and regulatory requirements in Vermont, the largest U.S. domicile, according to VCIA.

The moderator is Brian C. Donovan, president of Steel Tank Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group.

Panelists are Leonard Crouse director of captive insurance, Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration; Paul Knapp, president, Vermont Western Assurance (DST Systems); and Michael Bemi, president and chief executive officer of The National Catholic RRG.
