Free Access To Weiss Ratings In February

NU Online News Service, Jan. 31, 10:40 p.m.EST?Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based Weiss Ratings Inc.announced it is offering free, unlimited access to its safetyratings and investment ratings throughout the month ofFebruary.

The independent provider of ratings and analyses of financialservices companies, mutual funds and stocks said consumers andbusinesses are deluged with conflicting and sometimes misleadingadvice from Wall Street.

"Access to independent, unbiased ratings will greatly benefitthe individual investor," David Lackey, president of Weiss RatingsInc., commented in a statement. "In the current climate of economicuncertainty, this is an ideal time for consumers to evaluate therisk in their investment portfolio and the safety of the financialinstitutions handling their money."

Weiss Ratings said it issues safety ratings on more than 15,000financial institutions, including banks, insurance companies andbrokerage firms. The company also rates the risk-adjustedperformance of more than 11,000 mutual funds and more than 7,000stocks.

Weiss Ratings said it is the only major rating agency thatreceives no compensation from the companies it rates?its revenuesare derived strictly from sales of its products to consumers,businesses and libraries.

Visitors will be asked to provide their name and address, andwill be offered the option of receiving future news releases andother offers, according to Weiss.
