"Donating to the silent auction demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the insurance industry," said Jim Armitage InVEST chairman.

"We are pleased with the number of generous donations received thus far, and we would like to see this momentum continue. We can only succeed and advance the program with help from others who are passionate about securing the future of the industry," Mr. Armitage added.

The tax-deductible contribution to the auction supports insurance and risk management industry education programs for high school and community college students throughout the country.

Participants receive training in insurance agency and company operations, and are exposed to other career possibilities in the insurance industry. More than 6,000 students in 25 states participate in InVEST each year, the association said.

A spokeswoman said this would be the fourth auction for the organization. The last auction raised $40,000 for the program. Some of the items offered in the past have included sports packages, jewelry, vacation homes, box seats to ballet programs and gourmet food items.
