Pa. Agent Associations Merge

NU Online News Service, March 15, 9:32 a.m.EST?The boards of the Independent Agents Association ofPennsylvania and the Professional Insurance Agents Association ofPennsylvania announced the merger of their organizations.

"Our members have clearly told us that they want a singleorganization to represent their interests in Pennsylvania and ourtwo boards have agreed that we can better serve our members bymerging," Chuck School, chairman of the board of the PIA ofPennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware said in a statement.

The new organization will maintain affiliations with both theIndependent Insurance Agents of America and the NationalAssociation of Professional Insurance Agents, both based inAlexandria, Va.

The PIA operations in Maryland and Delaware will be unaffectedby the merger.

Peter Gebhard, president of the IAA of Pennsylvania, said themerger strengthens the voice of the state's agents and would createa better package of products and services for members.

The associations are still working on a governance structurethat will be voted on by the memberships of both associations inthe next few months.

The new organization would represent nearly 1,400 independentinsurance agencies in Pennsylvania, the statement said.
