London Might Not Have Last Word On Asbestos Claims

The London market fired the first shot this month in what is likely to be a long, drawn-out battle over asbestos claims when Equitas and a group of U.K. carriers announced stiffer claims approval standards.

London market officials drew a line in the sand, proclaiming that starting on June 1, claimants must provide documented medical evidence that they suffer from an asbestos-related injury. In addition, claimants will have to prove that their injury was caused by a product manufactured or distributed by the insured defendant named in the complaint.
