The suits claim Aetna routinely promises to pay for a bilateral breast reconstruction at its in-network rate. But after the procedure is complete, Aetna allegedly only pays a fraction of the agreed-on cost.

The company engaged in dilatory and abusive claims handling by requesting irrelevant records, failing to keep the insureds apprised of the status of the claim at proper intervals, and harassing the insured with character attacks, the suit claims.
"It's fair to say that Geets and the carriers recognized in cases like this where there are high levels of intoxication, a jury would absolutely conclude that the patron was visibly intoxicated," said plaintiffs attorney Daniel Mann.
"Justice should mean the same thing for every American. That's why we need to make big, systemic changes to the way civil damages are determined in this country, to recognize the value of every life and to end the implementation of discriminatory calculations," said Sue Steinman of the American Association for Justice.
