Industries with the highest employee loss in 2022

You already know that today's businesses are weathering a more transitive workforce than in years past. But some industries have been more impacted by such trends as the Great Resignation and "quiet quitting" than others. According to data collected and recently released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), food services and related businesses suffered the highest rate of departing employees between August 2021 and August 2022. The slideshow above illustrates the top industries to lose employees over the last year, according to the BLS and SmallPDF, which compiled the findings. "The news has been filled with stories about unionizing within companies, striking and more due to wages and treatment issues from employees, and this data highlights which industries are losing the largest part of their workforce," an unnamed spokesperson from the SmallPDF said in a press release. "From an individual perspective, workers can ensure that if they do decide to quit, they do so in a professional manner, by using a template resignation letter." Forbes has previously reported that the top reasons that people tend to leave a job are poor management, unhealthy working conditions, and the inability to work remotely. Such dynamics should be of interest to insurance personnel who serve the struggling industries, as staffing shortages can lead to production slowdowns, and an abundance of new or inexperienced employees can put a business at risk of injuries and other business interruptions.
