Meridian Security Insurance Co. was responsible for paying $35,000 in prejudgment interest, starting from the date of each attorney invoice, a court ruled.
The insurance company argued that the defendants were negligent and are liable for the $170,000 policy paid to the insured for the damages caused by a fire, the complaint said.
A court can award actual damages of at least $1,000 for each violation, punitive damages for reckless or willful disregard of the law, and attorney fees and litigation costs.
