The Mississippi Insurance Department published a press release providing guidance in anticipation of Hurricane Isaias.

Residents should review their insurance policies to be familiar with their coverage. Homeowners' policies typically do not cover flooding, and flood insurance typically has a 30-day waiting period to go into effect.

Homeowners are advised to make a home inventory to make it easier to file a claim after a disaster. NAIC's Home Inventory App is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Homeowners are advised to keep a "Go Bag" handy with important documents like insurance cards and SS cards kept in a waterproof container. Residents should fortify their homes by securing outside furniture and other items, trim dead or weak branches, clearing gutters and drains of debris, and checking the roof, windows, and doors for damage. Finally, vehicles should be stored in a secure location.

The press release can be found here.
