The Louisiana Department of Insurance published a bulletin announcing the promulgation of Regulation 138—Premium Discount for Dashboard Cameras with Telematic Systems: Commercial Motor Vehicles.
The regulation requires insurers to give a premium discount for the liability portion of commercial motor vehicle policies to commercial motor vehicles that are equipped with dashboard cameras and telematics systems.
The regulation also requires commercial motor vehicle insurers in the state to submit an annual report that includes the number of commercial motor vehicles that receive the discount, the aggregate savings provided to policyholders, and changes in claim frequency and severity due to dashboard cameras and telematics.
The regulation states that insurers must submit the annual report to the commissioner by the first of March every year. The first report is due by March 1, 2027.
