The New Hampshire Insurance Department published a bulletin reminding personal automobile insurers of their requirements under the state statutes.

Under RSA 417-A:5, a personal auto insurer can issue a notice of termination if an insured does not pay a renewal premium on time. The notice must provide a period of at least 10 days during which the insured can pay the overdue premium and have no lapse in coverage. The policy can only be terminated if the insurer issued a termination notice and the insured failed to pay the premium during the extended 10 day period.

The Department issued the bulletin after finding termination notices that did not fully comply with the statutory requirements. Personal auto insurers should review their termination notices to ensure compliance with the statute. Insurers not in compliance must file revised notices by October 1, 2026.

The bulletin can be found here.
