The commissioner has issued a declaration authorizing the temporary assistance of nonresident independent adjusters due to Hurricane Lala. Nonresident independent adjusters will be allowed to operate in the state to facilitate the amount of work needed due to Hurricane Lala to ensure that insurance companies can timely respond to property owners' claims. Nonresident independent adjusters are allowed to operate without a license for up to 120 days from the date of registration as long as:

  1. The adjuster provides a copy of their current license in another state with licensing requirements similar to Hawaii's requirements;
  2. Within 3 working days of the commencement of work by a nonresident adjuster, an insurance company, independent adjusting company, or producer that is using the nonresident adjuster shall provide to the Commissioner on its letterhead the following information:

    1. Name of the nonresident adjuster;
    2. Nonresident adjuster's Hawaii mailing address and business address and phone numbers;
    3. Nonresident adjuster's permanent home and business addresses and phone numbers.

An insurance company, independent adjusting company or producer should use the Emergency Independent Adjuster Form to provide information as required. The document should be sent to:
