Fraud of the Week – Phony Insureds but Real Commissions
Agent Fraud – Maryland
Amount – $5,122
An agent was indicted for felony theft and insurance fraud for submitting multiple fraudulent applications. The man submitted 21 applications for fictitious individuals in order to be paid commissions on the phony policies. He admitted to using Hispanic names because he believed the insurer would conclude they were undocumented and not try to further verify Social Security numbers in the applications.
