The Texas Department of Insurance published a news release providing home and auto insurance data in an effort to promote transparency.
In 2025, insurers paid $8.74 billion in losses in the state for wind and hail, water, fire, theft, liability, and vandalism. Wind and hail account for the most losses, responsible for 62% of losses since 2019. This chart shows loss by type and dollar amount and can be sorted by county.
The homeowners insurance market overview page provides a snapshot of the industry as a whole. In 2025, there were over 8 million active policies, with an average annual premium of $3,506. Insureds can utilize the home and auto rate filing page to see if their insurer filed a rate change with the Department.
