The Mississippi Insurance Department published a press release announcing the creation of the Strengthen Mississippi Homes Grant Program following the passage of Senate Bill 2409.

The program will provide grants up to $10,000 to primary, single-family, owner-occupied residences to go toward mitigating homes from storm damage. The program focuses on upgrading roofs to better protect against high winds and heavy rain.

Grants will first be available to homeowners who have been insured by the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association (MWUA) for at least three consecutive years. A statewide rollout of the program for those who are not insured by MWUA is expected in early 2027.
