The Maine Bureau of Insurance published a bulletin providing information on the Maine HoME Resiliency Program. The program will provide grants to homeowners to fortify their homes against severe weather.

To be eligible for the grant, homeowners must be Maine residents, and the home must be their primary residence. The home must be structurally sound and must have homeowners insurance. If in a flood plain, the home must have flood insurance.

The program will provide grants for two types of projects: roof replacement projects and flood resiliency projects. The roof replacement projects must comply with the IBHS FORTIFIED standards, which are built to withstand hurricane winds and rain. Homeowners with fortified homes may qualify for premium discounts.

The initial application period is set to start in the first half of 2026. The first phase will focus on roof replacement, and the second phase, coming in 2027, will focus on flood resiliency.
