The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) published a bulletin informing P&C insurers of the department's Fortified Homes Premium Discounts program.

Insurers are required to offer premium discounts for residential properties that have achieved a FORTIFIED designation, as set by the IBHS. Insurers are also required to be knowledgeable about the program, any insurance laws governing the program, and be able to convey that information to insureds. Discounts must be offered based on the following table:

ZoneFortified RoofSilverGold
North16%20%24%
Central27%35%42%
South29%43%49%

North, Central, and South represent regions in Louisiana, and Fortified Roof, Silver, and Gold represent the level of protection offered, with Gold being the most extensive. The table was developed using Verisk and Moody's hurricane catastrophe models.

Insurers are required to offer premium discounts in compliance with the program by January 1, 2027.
