The Texas Department of Insurance published a news release informing consumers that insurers are legally required to inform them in writing explaining the reason for cancellation or nonrenewal of their home or auto insurance.

House Bill 2067 applies to insurer actions made on or after January 1, 2026. If consumers know why their home or auto insurance has been declined, canceled, or nonrenewed, they may be able to take action to correct the situation.

The bill also requires insurers to submit reports to the Department; the Department intends to combine all the information and publish it online.
