Four people pleaded no-contest to felony insurance fraud and assault charges for their roles in staging an accident with a rideshare driver. Two of the suspects ordered a rideshare, and during the ride a separate vehicle owned by a third man in on the scheme intentionally struck the rideshare vehicle. The men in the vehicle claimed injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The rideshare advised authorities that he was suspicious of the event and thought he had been intentionally hit by the other vehicle.
Three of the men involved were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and insurance fraud. Two of the three were on probation for previous convictions for narcotics trafficking, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony possession of a firearm.
