The New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance(OSI) published a bulletin informing insurers of a Public Protection Classification (PPC) change for residents of Ruidoso.

The OSI was informed by ISO that policyholders in the Ruidoso fire service protection areas (FSPA) have been downgraded from a Class 2 to a Class 3 rating. The expected effective date is July 1, 2026.

OSI expects insurers to inform their customers within the Ruidoso FSPA of the change within 90 days of the bulletin's publication (January 22, 2026). OSI provides a sample text insurers may use to inform their customers of the change.

The bulletin can be found here.
