The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) published a press release announcing the official launch of the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Grant Program after running a few pilot launches.

The program will provide grants of up to $10,000 throughout the state to construct and fortify homes, providing protection against tornadoes, windstorms, and hail. Grants will be awarded by the OID to residential properties that are an owner-occupied, single-family primary residence. Condos or mobile homes are not eligible.

The grants will help homeowners meet the safety standards outlined by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). IBHS standards include using impact-resistant shingles, a sealed roof deck, and stronger roof deck edges. These improvements can reduce storm damage by up to 80 percent and can also lower insurance premiums by 20 to 30 percent for homeowners.

The program opened on Monday, January 12, 2026. Applicants can apply on the OID website.
