Fraud of the Week – One Car, Multiple Scenarios
Auto Fraud – North Carolina
Amount – Unknown
A man was arrested and charged with three counts of insurance fraud and three counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretenses, all felony charges. The charges all involve his 2022 Audi, valued at $161,000. In one claim, he crashed the vehicle 3 hours after a policy was taken out in his mother’s name. In another claim, he told the insurer in April that he crashed the vehicle in January. During the investigation of that claim, it was discovered that the vehicle was at an Audi dealership at the supposed time of the accident. In the third claim, he told his insurer that he left his car on the side of the road due to a flat tire, and when he returned, the vehicle was missing. He later claimed to find the vehicle, but refused to provide details to authorities.
