The Delaware Department of Insurance published a bulletin asking insurers to provide accommodation to federal workers affected by the government shutdown.
The government has been shut down since October 1, 2025, and as a result, many federal employees in Delaware have not received a paycheck and may be facing financial difficulties. To provide relief to those affected and avoid lapses in insurance coverage, the Department asks that insurers do the following:
- Provide a grace period for premium payments for at least 60 days
- Do not cancel or nonrenew policies because of non-payment of premium during the shutdown
- Waive late fees, penalties, and interest charges from late premium payments
- Provide at least a 30-day extension for property repairs if the repairs can’t be completed by the timeline specified in the policy
The bulletin can be found here.
