The Wyoming Department of Insurance published a memorandum informing insurers that future premium tax return filings must be done through the OPTins filing system and through a form prescribed by the insurance commissioner.
The change will begin with the 2025 Annual Statement filings that are due by March 1, 2026. Paper filings will not be accepted. Guidance on creating a NAIC OPTins account can be found here.
Premium taxes must be paid quarterly. The due date for annual filings is March 1 each year, and the due dates for quarterly filings are April 30, July 31, and October 31 each year. Insurers may file all three quarters in one filing. Failure to pay the taxes can result in suspension or revocation of an insurer’s certificate of authority.
The memorandum can be found on the Department website.
