The Maryland Insurance Administration is asking insurers to provide accommodations to federal workers affected by the government shutdown, which has been ongoing since October 1, 2025.

Accommodations can include deferred premium payments, extending grace periods, accepting partial payments, and waiving late fees and penalties for late payment. Insurers domiciled in Maryland can request a permitted accounting practice to waive the accounting principle that requires an insurer to non-admit premium receivable assets over 90 days past due.

The bulletin applies to personal and commercial P&C insurance lines and all lines of life & health insurance.
