A Michigan man is facing three counts each of insurance fraud, identity theft, and using a computer to commit a crime for stealing the identity of a state legislator and taking out three auto policies in the legislator’s name. The three counts of insurance fraud for obtaining a policy using the victim’s name and date of birth are felony counts and could result in four years in jail and fines up to $50,000. The three counts of identity theft for obtaining an insurance policy using the victim’s name are felony counts with possible jail time of five years, a fine up to $25,000, or both.
