The North Carolina Department of Insurance published a press release announcing the launch of the 2025 Strengthen Your Coastal Roof program. The program will provide $20 million in grants to eligible NCIUA policyholders.

North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA) is the state’s residential homeowners market. Eligible NCIUA policyholders can receive a $6,000 grant to go toward upgrading their home with an IBHS FORTIFIED Roof.

An IBHS FORTIFIED Roof strengthens and protects the roof from severe weather effects by going beyond typical building codes. Research has shown that the roof is the most vulnerable part of a house during high winds. The IBHS standard is based on decades of research by IBHS and is designed to protect homes against severe weather such as hail, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

Grants will be awarded first come, first served, in the following eligible counties: Brunswick, Carteret, New Hanover, Onslow, Beaufort, Camden, Chowan, Craven, Jones, Pender, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrell, Washington, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, and Pamlico.

NCIUA policyholders can check their eligibility status by entering their NCIUA policy number and mailing zip code on the program website.
