The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) published a press release announcing an expansion of the second pilot launch of the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes program.

The program provides grants of up to $10,000 to construct and fortify homes, providing protection against tornadoes, windstorms, and hail. The grants help homeowners meet the safety standards outlined by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).

The initial pilot launch of the program provided 100 grants to applicants in eight eligible ZIP codes. An expansion later added two more eligible ZIP codes. The second pilot launch provided 250 grants to eligible homeowners in nine additional zip codes. This expansion adds eight new zip codes, for a total of 17 eligible zip codes for the second pilot:

  • 74014
  • 74063
  • 74107
  • 74114
  • 74120
  • 74132
  • 74437
  • 74447

The selected ZIP codes were chosen because they have been heavily impacted by past storms, which the OID determined after reviewing storm data, paid loss ratios, and the number of active insurance policies in the chosen ZIP codes. OID plans to launch several additional pilots throughout the year, with the goal of awarding a total of 1,000 grants.
