A man has been charged with one count of Fraudulent Submissions – Application Fraud, one count of Fraudulent Submissions – Misrepresentation of Material Fact, one count of Fraudulent Practice, one count of Forgery, and one count of Identity Theft following an investigation performed by the Iowa Insurance Division's Fraud Bureau. The man claimed two Rolex watches had been stolen from a hotel room he was staying in. He reported the loss to his insurance company for payment. In submitting documents to substantiate his claim, investigators discovered the purchase receipt for one of the watches was fabricated and that claims had been submitted earlier to the same company for the same watches, and he had been paid for those losses earlier. He has been arrested and is out on a $10,000 bond.
As of April 2, 2025 the man pled guilty and was sentenced to ten years in prison and ordered to pay $2,395 in fines.
