The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) published a bulletin reminding P&C insurers of their responsibility to explain certain information concerning the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program to their insureds.
The LDI has received consumer complaints involving confusion over the Fortify Homes Program and related discounts and endorsements. Insurers and producers are required to be knowledgeable about the program and any insurance laws governing the program, and able to convey that information to insureds.
Insurers and producers must also explain to insureds their right to receive premium discounts and the specific amount of any discount for a fortified roof or home. Insureds should also know they have the right to request quotes for endorsements to fortify their roof or home. Insurers are required by Louisiana insurance law to offer a fortified roof endorsement.
