The Maryland Insurance Administration published a bulletin announcing emergency regulations for all P&C and Life & Health insurers in the state following a declared State of Emergency.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore issued an executive order on May 15, 2025, declaring a state of emergency for Allegany and Garrett Counties due to severe flood damage. This gave the Insurance Commissioner the authority to activate emergency regulations.
As a result, insurers are required to provide a grace period for premium payment for up to 60 days to policyholders and businesses that are located in the affected counties. The Administration aims to avoid policy cancellations. The emergency regulation applies to personal auto insurance, homeowners insurance, and other personal lines, commercial insurance, and life and health insurance.
