The Kentucky Department of Insurance published an Advisory offering guidance to insurers following heavy storms in certain parts of the state.

The Department advises that since a State of Emergency was declared, insurers have the ability to give grace periods to policyholders to pay premiums, copayments, deductibles, and other charges. Grace periods may be given until June 17, 2025. If an insurer does intend to offer extensions, they should inform the Department.

Since the storms have interrupted normal mail delivery services, insurers should also not cancel or nonrenew policies or implement rate increases until they can provide proper notice. Insurers should also make available a copy of an insured’s policy upon request and free of charge.
