The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation published a news release announcing the end of online testing for insurance licensing exams, following a few other states.

The Bureau of Insurance has advised Pearson VUE, its exam vendor, to no longer allow online testing for insurance licensing exams. The option for online testing was initially introduced only as a response to COVID concerns. The Bureau has determined that there are security risks with online-proctored exams and has decided to no longer offer the option.

Effective immediately, registrations for online insurance exams will not be accepted. Anyone who has already registered for an exam that is scheduled on or before May 16, 2025, will be allowed to do so online. Any exam scheduled after that date must be rescheduled to be taken in person at a Pearson VUE testing center.
