The Louisiana Department of Insurance published a bulletin informing P&C insurers writing homeowners or private passenger motor vehicle policies in the state of new disclosure requirements as a result of the enactment of La. R.S. 22:881.1.
The statute, effective May 1, 2025, requires that insurers disclose all discounts they offer that could reduce an applicant's or policyholder's homeowners or motor vehicle insurance premium. The disclosure must be stated in at least twelve-point font and be delivered by electronic means or be included within the written materials of a new policy delivered to the policyholder.
“Discounts” is defined in the statute to mean premium credits advertised by an insurer to policyholders who meet certain criteria. The statute does not apply to excess and surplus lines.
