A man pled guilty to false claims or proof, which is a felony offense. He contacted police and made a report that an unknown person tried to steal his vehicle. The next day he filed a claim with his insurer, stating the vehicle had been damaged in the attempted theft. Upon investigation, the insurer discovered that the damages were from a previous claim from 2022. The claim was denied and referred to the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) for investigation. The man received a suspended sentence, was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service, and will be on probation for 24 months.
