Fraud of the Week
Auto Fraud - North Carolina
Amount - Unknown

A woman was arrested and charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretenses, both felonies. The Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division charged the woman with adding false statements to her auto accident claim reported to her insurer. She presented that the auto had no preexisting damage before the accident, and that a passenger was in the vehicle and injured in the accident. In truth, the vehicle had unrepaired previous damage, and no passengers were present at the time of the accident. She was released on $4,000 bond.
