The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI) published a news release announcing the creation of the Resiliency and Mitigation Council. The Council’s main objective is to address the challenges of affordability and availability of homeowners insurance for property in the state's forested and wildland-urban interface areas.

The prevalence of natural disasters has negatively impacted the affordability and availability of homeowners insurance. The Council seeks to investigate mitigation techniques to reduce the risk of losses. DIFI intends to create a report of the Council’s findings by the end of 2025.

The Council is comprised of members representing many cities, towns, and counties, firefighting authorities, the insurance industry, and federally recognized tribal nations.

The first meeting will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Members of the public may attend either virtually or in person. More information can be found on DIFI’s website.
