If someone hits their own home (insured by company A) with their personal vehicle that is insured (by company B), which company pays for the home damage?

In order for coverage to come from the auto policy, it would have to come from the liability portion of the policy. An insured is unable to sue himself, and the liability portion of the policy applies to accidents for which the insured is legally liable. While there is an exception to the exclusion for property damage under 3. for property damage to property rented, used, or in the care of an insured for damage to a residence or private garage, we believe that the requirement for legal liability overrides this exception.
Therefore, coverage should come under the homeowners policy. Under Section I of the ISO HO 00 03, there is no exclusion for an insured vehicle damaging the house. That coverage is open perils, so unless something is excluded it should be covered, as long as the insured didn't intentionally drive into the home.
